Rajyotsava awardee environmentalist Mahadev velipa passes away
Karnataka Rajyotsava Award winner, environmentalist and folk artist Mahadeva Velipa (90) has passed away today.
He passed away this morning, suffering from age-related ailments. Family sources said the funeral will be held in the evening.
Mahadeva Velipa of the Kartoli village of the Nagoda village panchayat of Joyda taluk was the recipient of the Folk Award and the Rajyotsava award for folk art and environmental protection.
Velipa was continuously engaged in the task of preserving the traditional culture of the tribe through song. An eco-lover, Velaipa worked for forest conservation. The state government honored him with the Rajyotsava Award in 2021 for his services as a graft doctor.
